“In a space that promotes physical activity, victims will be able to participate in a wide array of activities shown to help ease depression and anxiety. The release of endorphins resulting from these activities provide psychological and emotional benefits that can help them to gain confidence, increase social interaction, and develop healthy coping skills.”
- Kimberly Hashin, M.D.
Why a Garden?
As we have all now shared the experience of living through a pandemic, we likely recognize the benefits of being outdoors. The garden will provide a safe space for victims of all ages to enjoy the outdoors and receive services in a setting designed to promote healing and growth. Significantly, space for a small short-term kennel will be included so that victims need not choose between their safety and leaving their pets behind.
The garden will be safely enclosed on the shelter site in a space that has been largely unusable. While early investments have enabled us to address some issues, we still need your help!
Each year more than 200 victims who come to shelter will benefit from the garden. The increased size of the space will allow for nonresident victims to also participate in garden activities.
